About The Author

My research focuses on primary production and carbon sequestration in shallow lakes, ponds, and wetlands within a rapidly changing world. Special interests and investigations include the effects of climate change, DOC increase, and water-level fluctuations on ecosystem metabolism, carbon burial, and greenhouse gas fluxes.

High Primary Production In Shallow Waters

Small freshwater bodies are supercharged ecosystems with regards to carbon turnover within a landscape. They often form the lowest point of catchments and, due to their high surface area to volume ratios, they receive significant external carbon and nutrient input through leaf litter, surface runoff, fertilizer seepage and other anthropogenic effluents. Consequently, such small, shallow
